Impact and Flexure Test of 3D Printed Composite Core Structures
• Designed and analyzed the strength of different sandwich structures based on the web design of its core.
• In order to achieve that several sandwich samples with varied core web designs are subjected to flexural (3-point bending test) and impact testing.
• Implemented the chemical composition as well as the skeleton of its bonding structure for Kevlar and Diamond to compare it with the strength of the standard Honeycomb structure used in aircraft.
• 3-D printed core structure of Kevlar, Diamond, and Honeycomb using the same material as well as matching dimension to fabricate the sandwich using fiberglass as well as epoxy.
• Performed Flexural Test using the Universal Testing Machine and Impact Test using Dynatup 8250 to collect data for each individual core sample with the help of the program designed on LabView application.
• Generated theoretical data for the test using a MATLAB program to calculate the results and a simulation using ANSYS.
• Compared all the data to give a conclusive report on the strength of each core structure.
